DENVER, the United States, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Denver residents woke Tuesday morning to deal with the biggest snowfall since 1975 after snowflakes blanketed the city overnight, dumping between 3 and 6 inches (7 to 15 cm) in the capital city of the U.S. state of Colorado.

The morning rush hour saw wrecks and accidents across town, as drivers tried to navigate slippery streets. By mid-afternoon, most of the snow had melted.

"Enough is enough," said Denver resident Harold Sewell. "We've had a long winter."

Dozens of inbound flights to Denver International Airport were delayed and 392 departing flights delayed or canceled due to the weather.

The heavy snow splintered trees and banged up homes and cars throughout the city, and Denver tied the 1891 record low temperature for May 21.

Colorado Springs, the state's second largest city also got hammered with areas around the city reporting up to 20 inches (50 cm) of snow by early morning.
