JERUSALEM, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Israel sees a shortage of doctors and nurses, according to a report from Israeli Ministry of Health published on Sunday.

The report, providing data of 2016, sees a decrease in the number of doctors in Israel in relation to population as 3.1 doctors per 1,000 people, compared with 3.4 in last year's report. The average in developed countries is 3.3 doctors per 1,000 people.

The rate of nurses in Israel is also at the bottom of the ranking, with only five nurses per 1,000 residents.

Israel's average expenditure on health as a percentage of GNP is 7.3 percent, compared with 8.9 percent in the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) countries.
