BEIRUT, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon's security forces confiscated 15 tons of hashish last week in the biggest ever drug bust in the country, local media reported Monday.

Imad Othman, head of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF), was quoted by the National News Agency (NNA) as saying that the hashish, packaged and ready to be shipped out of the country, were confiscated after a raid on a south Beirut warehouse on Friday.

"The drugs were set to leave Lebanon for Libya and then to Egypt, but we don't know what the final destination was yet," Othman said.

The security official said that seven people have been arrested so far, including a customs employee who is from eastern Lebanon's Bekaa Valley.

Othman said the security forces had been waiting for the shipment to arrive at the Beirut Port, "but once we knew the main suspect was at the warehouse, we decided to raid the site and arrest him."
