MADRID, May 11 (Xinhua) -- World No. 1 Rafael Nadal extended his consecutive winning streak on clay to 50 sets with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Diego Schwartzman here on Thursday, breaking John McEnroe's Open Era record of 49 straight sets won on a single surface.

"I won a difficult match against a very difficult player," the Spaniard great said. "They are big records. I really don't think much about that. Probably after I finish my career, it will be the time to think about it."

The defending champion, continuing his pursuit of a record sixth trophy in Madrid, will face a familiar rival, last year's finalist Dominic Thiem of Austria in the quarterfinals. The latter came from one set down to beat Borna Coric of Croatia 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 to advance.?
