SINGAPORE, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Singaporean stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) closed up 0.99 percent or 33.98 points to close at 3,464.28.

A total of 2.47 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.28 billion Singapore dollars (about 965.6 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 253 to 178.

The STI index closed up 0.8 percent or 27.38 points to close at 3,430.30 Tuesday.
