BUENOS AIRES, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Alan Velasco and Milton Gimenez scored first-half goals as Boca Juniors edged to a 2-1 away win over Central Cordoba in Argentina's Apertura tournament on Saturday.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute when Velasco combined with Williams Alarcon before firing a shot that deflected in off goalkeeper Alan Aguerre.
Gimenez doubled the advantage two minutes later, tapping in from close range after Exequiel Zeballos' driving run and cross from the left.
The hosts pulled a goal back through Michael Santos just before the hour, but Boca held on to secure its eighth win of the campaign.
The Buenos Aires side is now two points clear at the top of Group A while Central Cordoba is 13th out of 15 teams.
In other Argentine top-flight fixtures on Saturday, Banfield won 2-1 at Barracas Central, Lanus was held to a goalless home draw by Deportivo Riestra, Talleres drew 1-1 at Union Santa Fe and Independiente prevailed 2-1 at San Lorenzo. ■
